Pulu Kelapa Festival

Visit the Cocos (Keeling) Islands and celebrate the Pulu Kelapa Festival (transl. Coconut Island Festival) with us. Join in on the many family-friendly activities and learn more about the flora and fauna in and around the Cocos (Keeling) Islands lagoon. 

Get close and personal with Indian Ocean marine wildlife, at a marine-life exhibit by Fisheries WA at Scout Park!  This interactive demonstration will teach you all you need to know about marine life on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands and kids will love the touch-pool.

Experience the thrill of fly-fishing and try your hand at catching dinner!  Join Chasing Island Tails Fishing Tours for a free introductory lesson at Sandy Point on Home Island.



Join the Cocos Artisans Collective for an entertaining tour of the Cocos Farm, where sustainable local products are developed and exported. Meet locals, sample some delicious produce, and try your hand at Coconut Oil extraction!

Take part in one of the many beachcombing sessions during the week and learn more about the flotsam and jetsam that are washed ashore on our islands. 

As the sun goes down on Friday, grab a comfy chair or picnic rug, and settle in for the 2018 Ocean Film Festival.

Sunday 29 April

Family Fun Day 
SCOUT PARK   8am – 11pm

Come along and enjoy a family outing at Scout Park.  Pack a picnic breakfast, relax or participate in beachcombing activities, live touch pools, fishing games, origami making, coconut bowling and the chance to explore the Cocos Keeling Islands Fire Truck!
Fresh coffee and ice cream available. Try Saltmakers famous coconut flavoured ice-cream.

Tangaroa Blue beach audit

Why not get involved in citizen science and join Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and Tangaroa Blue in an Indian Ocean Territories Marine Debris Project beach audit.

Sit back, relax & enjoy a screening of short films produced by local talented film makers!

Tuesday 1 May

Open Day @ Cocos Farm
COCOS FARM   9am – 11am

Join us for an entertaining tour of the Cocos Farm where locally grown products are developed and exported.  Meet some of the locals, including our ducks, whilst we stroll around the farm under coconut trees. Learn about coconut husking and the coconut oil making process. Make your very own coconut based moisturising butter.


Rasa Cocos Cooking Class
COCOS ISLANDS DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL 12.30pm – 2pm (bookings required)
Learn and experience cooking Cocos Malay cuisines with the wonderful local Malays and students of the school.


Fishing from WI jetty 
RUMAH BARU (NEW JETTY)  5.30pm – 7.30pm 
Learn to care for your catch with Fisheries Officer, Wade. Bring the kids, drop in for a short while, or stay for longer and enjoy a relaxed evening of fishing whilst taking in the beautiful sunset.

Thursday 3 May

Beachcombing tour

Explore the marine environment at Direction Island. Join Kylie and Wade from Fisheries on a beachcombing tour to observe local marine species and learn interesting facts about the local environment. View coral through a coral finder and hold interesting specimens found on local beaches.

Snorkel the famous ‘rip’ on Direction Island  (don’t forget to pack your snorkelling gear).


DONGA 3.30pm – 5.30pm

Get together with the locals, and take part in a game of Scroungers on their unusual course across the airport runway.  Dress up theme for this event is 'Fancy Coconut' and 'Flotsam & Jetsam'.

Enjoy a delicious fish burger at the Golf Donga after a successful round of golf. 

Friday 4 May

The Ocean Film Festival screening 
COCOS CLUB     6pm – 9.30pm

Cocos Keeling Islands has been selected to be part of the festival bringing you the world’s best ocean films, from both above and below the surface. Come along and enjoy the Australian tour on this mega world event!
